HFDWD Wins Outstanding Operations Award ...

The Harrisville Fire District Water Department is this year's winner of the Atlantic States Rural Water and Wastewater Association's Outstanding Water Operations Award. They received this award at ASRWWA's annual conference held on May 8, 2013 at Wright's Farm Restaurant in Burrillville.

According to ASRWWA's Executive Director Steven Levy, "The Harrisville Operating Committee and their employees have made a total commitment to improve and upgrade their water system to meet the ever increasing requirements of providing safe drinking water to their 2,800 customers."

In the past few years, Harrisville has replaced and installed three wells; renovated or constructed three pump houses; replaced one water tank and refurbished the other; installed 3,000 feet of new transmission main; installed a SCADA system to monitor their wells and tanks; renovated their office building; and are replacing their water meters with the newly required radio read system.

The board members and staff accepting this award were Chairman Ronald Slocum, Superintendent Paul Bisson, Water Operator Marc Baptista, Office Manager Brenda Gingell, Office Clerk Tina Pichie, Board Members Richard Gingell and James Scotland.

According to Chairman Slocum, "We are all very proud of the water we produce and the service we deliver."
